Training the next generation of Christ followers to actively share their faith through sports.
San Pedro de Macorís, DR – Building on their decades of sports ministry experience, missionaries Mark and Patty Palma undertook a project to create a self-sustaining soccer academy. They presented the vision to MissionConnect, and in January 2022 MissionConnect promoted and funded the inaugural work. We partnered with Base Mexico and Base Ministry trainers to begin equipping a team of young Christian leaders to share their faith through sports. We held the training and then initiated the sports camp ministry, both in the community and in a local Christian school, where we trained even more leaders.
At the end of the initial training time, MissionConnect was confronted with the need to enhance the sports ministry by building bathrooms at the proposed sports park area. We are pleased to say the funding is now complete and the restrooms are on the way. As the park opens and the club ministry expands, many young people are coming to know Jesus and be discipled through Gracia y Verdad ministries. Looking toward the future, MissionConnect is proposing more self-sustaining ministry training so this exciting work can carry on for generations.
